In 1995, sculptor Richard Hunt established a satellite studio in Benton Harbor, Michigan. The expansive building provided a showcase for his early artworks, personal art collection and library.  It was also a place where Hunt came to relax, connect with friends, and complete quieter work.

Before Hunt passed in 2023, he gifted the studio to Krasl Art Center, a neighboring organization with which he held a longtime relationship. It was Hunt’s wish that the studio would become a vibrant and active community resource, and a catalyst for development and innovation in sculpture.

Since gaining full operations of the site in 2025, Krasl Art Center has stewarded the replacement of the building’s roof, is finalizing the site’s non-profit status, and has launched programs in the Benton Harbor community. Next steps include enhancing the building’s safety, security, and accessibility to allow for it to open to the public.

Today the studio is being prepared to re-open to the public.
